From The Press Release:
(October 10, 2024) El Paso, TX- Just in time for Halloween, Andrew Jara’s first film, the Last Ones, is available to stream on horror movie app, Screambox! It joins the Empty Space, which was added earlier this year.
“The Last Ones being my first feature makes this extra special,” Andrew explained, “We made this film by saving every penny in college and by working with people who really believed in the vision of the film so to have it shown on Screambox is an overwhelming feeling.”
‘The Last Ones’ strives to tell a more realistic version of the zombie film by focusing on the human side of a post-apocalyptic plague. When the virus hit, John (Mark Ocegueda, BOOK OF ELI) lost everything: his friends, his family, and his future. But for nine months, John has survived by scavenging the local stores by day and fighting a deadly terror by night with the help of Micheal, (Algernon D’Ammassa, EATERS) a stranger who found him at the start of the outbreak. When they come unexpectedly upon another surivor Karina (Marcelle Bowman, REFUGE) the three of them are caught in a conflict far worse than they could’ve imagined.
‘The Last Ones’ is an independent feature film written and directed by Andrew Jara. It is a tale of psychological suspense, visceral terror, and the darker side of human nature. It acts as both a subversion of many familiar tropes of the zombie genre, as well as an exhilarating narrative all its own.
Made with a budget of only 40,000 dollars and shot with a RED-ONE camera, ‘The Last Ones’ shows what can truly be accomplished with an independent spirit and enough innovation. The film sold out opening night at 2012 the Plaza Classic film festival, played at the Fright Night film festival and won the audience award at the Tricon NM film festival, among many others.
The Last Ones is also available on Tubi, Amazon and VUDU.
