From The Press Release:
LOS ANGELES, NOVEMBER 6, 2024 – Epic Pictures Group announced today their acquisition of a true-crime film slate depicting the real life stories of notorious serial killers and their victims: ED KEMPER, DOROTHEA, THE DEVIL’S DISCIPLE and THE GOLDEN STATE KILLER. The true-crime thrillers are all directed by Chad Ferrin (Night Caller, The Deep Ones). ED KEMPER has wrapped production, DOROTHEA starts production this month while THE DEVIL’S DISCIPLE and THE GOLDEN STATE KILLER are currently in development.
“Prepare to explore the chilling crossroads of true crime and horror with ED KEMPER, the first in DREAD’s new Serial Killer Collection. As one of the world’s most infamous serial killers, Kemper’s story is both disturbing and captivating—perfect for launching this gripping series. We’re delving into the twisted psyche of these notorious figures to deliver a bone-chilling experience that goes beyond horror and taps into the terror of real-life monsters. Get ready for an unflinching journey into the dark depths of human nature,” notes CEO of Epic Pictures, Patrick Ewald.
ED KEMPER (production completed), infamously known as “The Co-ed Killer,” showcases the actual events of American serial killer Edmund Kemper, who murdered his grandparents at age 15 and, after being paroled for that crime, killed eight women in 1972 and 1973 including his own mother. The film stars Brandon Kirk (H. P. Lovecraft’s the Old Ones), Susan Priver (Dead Mail), Brinke Stevens (The Slumber Party Massacre), Lew Temple (Waitress), and Cassandra Gava (Conan the Barbarian). The film is scripted by Chad Ferrin and Stephen Johnston (Ted Bundy).
“Over my twenty six years directing films, ED KEMPER is my crowning achievement,” states director Chad Ferrin. “My cinematic bar has been raised, and I fully expect DOROTHEA and THE GOLDEN STATE KILLER to exceed that benchmark especially with Epic Pictures behind us.”
Psychological horror film DOROTHEA (in production) stars Susan Priver (Dead Mail), Lew Temple, Brinke Stevens, Ginger Lynn (American Pie Presents: Band Camp), Brenda James (Slither), and Ezra Buzzington (Fight Club). Written by Chad Ferrin, the film’s logline reads: As she lies dying in prison, notorious serial killer Dorothea Puente finally spills her grotesque secrets to a young journalist, unraveling the story of how a life shaped by abuse, betrayal, and manipulation drove her to drug, murder, and bury her helpless victims—turning her boarding house into a graveyard where no one screamed, and no one escaped.
THE DEVIL’S DISCIPLE (in development) official logline: In a city gripped by fear and a detective haunted by obsession, lines between hunter and hunted begin to blur. In a relentless pursuit to catch the Night Stalker, Detective Gil Carrillo dives into the darkest recesses of humanity, risking his own soul to end Richard Ramirez’s reign of terror.
THE GOLDEN STATE KILLER (in development) will follow sadistic ex-cop, Joseph James DeAngelo, turned serial predator as he unleashes a reign of terror across California, taunting his victims and outsmarting police for decades—until one forgotten clue shatters the illusion of safety he built around himself.
