Night of the Demon (1988) Available February 22

THE BIGFOOT BLOODBATH CLASSIC RESTORED UNCUT FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER

Amid the gush of early ’80s low-budget backwoods horror, only one lost classic brought together softcore sex, hardcore violence, Satanic sex cults and a limb-tearing, gut-slinging, dick-ripping beast for “the best and bloodiest Bigfoot movie ever made.” (Buried.com): When a group of Anthropology students heads into the forest to investigate a series of Sasquatch attacks, they’ll discover a brain-blast of crazy hermits, mutilated Girl Scouts, interspecies copulation and “one of the goriest final scenes in the whole history of splatter flicks” (A Slash Above). Producer/co-writer Jim L. Ball and director James C. Wasson deliver “an anti-masterpiece that moves like a bullet, unlike anything you’ve ever seen” (Mondo Digital) now scanned in 2K from the recently discovered 35mm answer print with over 5½ hours of Special Features on two discs.

STARRING: Michael Cutt, Joy Allen, Robert Collings

Swamp Of The Ravens | Trailer

If you’re only going to watch one 70’s Ecuadorian Frankenstein movie this month, make it Manuel Cano’s utterly depraved 1974 gem The Swamp Of The Ravens! This still relatively obscure Eurohorror potbolier tells the tale of an unhinged medico who hacks up bodies in his remote lab, messing around with life and death and wallowing in gore galore. Eerily anticipating Stuart Gordon’s much later (and better) Re-Animator, The Swamp Of The Ravens is an atmospheric, often surreal, trashterpiece filled with nudity, sex, surgery and out-of-left field musical numbers!

Whether it’s clients without cash, his mother castrating him with her sharp tongue or the recently deceased aunt in the hallway whose pension kept the place going. David will gradually lose his balance and tumble into a waking nightmare, in which his hotel is transformed into an existential purgatory. With inner demons on the booze, lustful creatures tempting his lonely soul to sin and a big plunge into the proverbial metaphysical shithole, David can expect some strong comments on Trip Advisor

The Last Thing Mary Saw – “Knees and Prayers” Clip | A Shudder Original

Punishment is administered.

Southold, New York, 1843: Young Mary (Stefanie Scott, Insidious Chapter 3), blood trickling from behind the blindfold tied around her eyes, is interrogated about the events surrounding her grandmother’s death. As the story jumps back in time, we witness Mary, raised in a repressively religious household, finding fleeting happiness in the arms of Eleanor (Isabelle Fuhrman, Orphan), the home’s maid. Her family, who believe they are seeing, speaking, and acting on God’s behalf, view the girls’ relationship as an abomination to be dealt with as severely as possible. The couple attempts to carry on in secret, but someone is always watching, or listening, and the wages of perceived sin threaten to become death, with the tension only heightened by the arrival of an enigmatic stranger (Rory Culkin, Lords of Chaos) and the revelation of greater forces at work. Directed by Edoardo Vitaletti.

Yokai Monsters Collection (3-Disc Standard Special Edition) Available February 22

From the makers of Daimajin comes a trilogy of terror ripped from the pages of Japanese folklore, with ghosts and monsters from ancient myths and legends brought to life through stunning special effects, alongside an epic, big-budget reboot of the series from a modern-day master of the macabre.

In the first film in the trilogy, 100 Monsters, a greedy slumlord’s attempts to forcefully evict his tenants invite the wrath of the titular spirits when a cleansing ritual is botched, with terrifying results. The second film, Spook Warfare, tells the tale of an evil Babylonian vampire inadvertently awoken by treasure hunters, and a brave samurai that teams with the yokai to defeat the bloodthirsty demon. In the final film, Along with Ghosts (released only 12 months after 100 Monsters), the yokai are roused to defend a little girl on the run from deadly yakuza.

Decades later, none other than Takashi Miike (Audition) helmed The Great Yokai War, a loose remake of Spook Warfare that used cutting-edge digital effects to renew the franchise for a new generation. In it, a young boy is given a grave responsibility: to band together with a group of yokai to defend humanity against a vengeful and powerful demon that has sworn retribution against modern-day Japan.

STARRING: Shinobu Araki, Jun Fujimaki, Yoshihiko Aoyama, Hideki Hanamura, Pepe Hozumi

But little do they know that Hugo, the camp’s gardener, has been transformed into an axe-wielding psychopath after drinking radioactive water!
