On August 7, 1994, residents of Oakville, Washington awoke to find translucent, jelly-like blobs covering their cars, lawns and roads. At first, the bizarre rain seemed almost harmless. Then people began reporting crushing fatigue, nausea, breathing difficulties and other unexplained symptoms.
Samples were sent for testing, but each examination seemed to produce a different answer. One suggested bacteria. Another found cells without nuclei. A later test appeared to reveal something else entirely. Then a crucial sample reportedly vanished before further analysis could be completed.
