Three young men shared an apartment near their university. By the end of one afternoon, two were dead — and the only person left alive would become the focus of a case filled with contradictions.
On September 15, 2003, Singaporean students Tony Tan Poh Chuan and Tay Chow Lyang were found brutally murdered inside their Kingsford apartment near the University of New South Wales in Sydney. Their roommate, Ram Tiwary, told police he had been asleep when violence erupted just beyond his locked bedroom door.
But investigators soon began asking questions. There was blood on the surviving roommate. A newly purchased baseball bat. No sign of forced entry. And yet, other details refused to fit neatly into the story police believed had unfolded inside that apartment.
There was also the white car waiting near campus. Tony’s strange behavior before his death. Three unidentified people who were never found. And a meal apparently being prepared for more than one person.
