On a Friday morning in April of 1990, a woman in Greenville, South Carolina didn’t show up for work. Nobody had heard from her in almost thirty-six hours. When maintenance finally opened her apartment door, water was still running in the tub and it had overflowed into the apt.
Her name was Genevieve, but everyone called her Jenny. She was twenty-eight years old, originally from Youngstown, Ohio, and she had moved to South Carolina less than two years earlier and built an entire life there from scratch. Her case went cold.
However in Part ONE we found out that sixteen years later, and six hundred miles away, investigators in Portageville, Missouri, finally developed a full DNA profile in the 1998 murders of 38-year-old Sherri Scherer and her 12-year-old daughter Megan, who were killed inside their own farmhouse in a forty-minute window while the rest of the family was stuck behind a truck blocking the only road home.
Missouri had spent eight years with evidence they couldn’t use. When they finally entered that profile into the national database, it came back to an apartment in South Carolina. Two unsolved cases became one unsolved case. And there was still no name.
