Welcome to the 1980s TV horrorshow that never was. PHANTASMATAPES is a psychotronic VHS mixtape that reimagines THE REVENGE OF DR. X (a Japan-set creature feature that was written by Ed Wood) and THE BRAIN THAT WOULDN’T DIE (the savage body horror film that inspired FRANKENHOOKER) as a late-nite, home-taped double feature—complete with local TV commercials and a new synthesizer score from Taken by Savages (JUNGLE TRAP). Inspired by hazy memories of channel-surfing at the witching hour, this is a nostalgic and experimental art project from the minds behind Bleeding Skull.

DO YOU READ SUTTER CANE?

He chilled our blood with The Thing. Brought us face to face with the devil himself in Prince of Darkness. Now master of horror John Carpenter drives us out of our minds with In the Mouth of Madness, the final entry in his “Apocalypse Trilogy.”

Horror author Sutter Cane is missing. As crowds turn violent waiting for copies of his latest book, Cane’s publishers enlist insurance investigator John Trent to find him. With Cane’s editor, Linda Styles, Trent sets off in search of the elusive author and finds himself trapped in Hobb’s End, a town that should only exist within the author’s books. As fiction and reality blur, Trent begins to realize that between the lines, beyond the page, somewhere out there in the dark, something evil is waiting to break through.

From out the seething heat of the endless desert comes the nameless man (Robert John Burke, RoboCop 3, Thinner), his worn-down boot-heels tapping across the hard-baked earth. His old and ruthless spirit has smelled the town dying from afar and he has come to collect the souls to build his power. Soon the wasteland is littered with burned and disfigured remains and Ben Mukurob (Zakes Mokae, The Serpent and the Rainbow), the last policeman in the small town of Bethany, is faced with a mystery that threatens his eternal soul. Into this maelstrom of horror comes Wendy (Chelsea Field, Masters of the Universe), a young woman on the run from a broken marriage. Her flight has led her into the desert and perhaps into the arms of the Devil Himself. Filmmaking visionary Richard Stanley (director of the seminal cyberpunk shocker Hardware) has conjured a mystical mélange of windswept Spaghetti Western and hallucinatory horror/fantasy, spectacularly filmed on location in the Great Namib Desert of Africa. This Special Edition of Dust Devil includes Richard Stanley’s Director’s Cut and the original, altered Theatrical Cut – both versions gloriously restored in 4K!

Widely acclaimed for having modernized television horror in the 1960s and ’70s, producer Dan Curtis (Dark Shadows, The Night Stalker) also embraced more traditional approaches. This special edition presents Curtis’s made-for-TV versions of the three foundational monsters of filmdom. Adapted by Richard Matheson (Somewhere in Time) and starring Jack Palance (Shane), Dracula was filmed in Eastern Europe and was the first film to make a connection between Bram Stoker’s vampire and Vlad the Impaler. Bo Svenson (Part 2: Walking Tall) portrays the heartbreakingly childlike monster of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. Robert Louis Stevenson’s The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde features a ferocious performance by Palance as the scientist who unbridles the deepest, darkest urges of the human animal.

Welcome to Bloody Creek State Park! Named so because the indigenous natives committed so many acts of human sacrifice that the water turned red with blood. Now, a machete wielding lunatic has been dismembering and mutilating nubile young campers inside the park. With the police force baffled, a local author decides to take matters into her own hands and investigate the murder of her daughter. Could the police have a deranged killer amongst their ranks? Or could it be Jane, the nature loving park ranger determined to preserve the purity of her beloved forest. Find out as carnage reigns amongst the cornfields in Bloody Creek!

Another mind-melting, backwoods SOV slasher opus courtesy of director Gary Whitson and his notorious New Jersey based “custom” movie studio W.A.V.E. Productions, 1993’s BLOODY CREEK is notable for starring the infamous mother / daughter scream queen duo of Terri Lewandowski and Christine Cavalier. Featuring additional performances by Dave Castiglione (Backwoods Marcy), Aven Warren (Dead North), and Cristie Clark (Vampire Brides), BLOODY CREEK is a viscous analog stew bubbling over with harrowing decapitations, goopy disembowelings, questionable ‘90s fashions, and perilous dingy creek tussling. Plus, BLOODY CREEK now comes paired with director Gary Whitson’s feature length, long gap sequel Return to Bloody Creek from 2022 starring W.A.V.E. legends Debbie D. and Laura Giglio!

Italian horror in the 1960s and 70s went through several popular tonal and thematic phases. From gothic thrillers in the early to mid-60s, psychedelia and monster mayhem in the late 60s and early 70s, and of course, all manner of gialli and other assorted murder thrillers. But what of those films that offer a form of narrative bait and switch, luring the viewer in with the pretense of one genre while slowly revealing themselves to be something else entirely? Presented here are a trio of 70s Italian horror features which play with, combine, subvert, and surprise with their genre leanings, all newly and exclusively restored from their 35mm original negatives and all presented on English-friendly home video for the very first time, from Vinegar Syndrome.

#horror – #horrormovies – #PuranaMandirTheHauntedTemple – #MondoMacabro – @MondoMacabroUSA –

Mondo Macabro presents PURANA MANDIR: THE HAUNTED TEMPLE &345; A Bollywood horror classic.

The film begins two centuries in the past. Raja Harriman Singh is stranded near the Black Mountain when the wheel of one his carriages is broken. While they wait for the wheel to be repaired, Hariman Singh’s daughter Rupali wanders off to explore the nearby deserted temple. There she is captured by the evil magician Samri. He sucks out her life force, turning her eyes white as she dies. The Raja catches Samri and orders his death. The monster is decapitated, his body buried in one location and his head kept in another. That way, so it’s believed, he can never be brought back to life. Before he dies, Samri curses Harriman Singh, saying that every female member of his line will die in childbirth.

In the present day, the mid 1980s, a descendent of Harriman Singh is a successful businessman with a teenage daughter, Suman. She has a boyfriend, Sanjay of whom her father disapproves. She thinks it is because Sanjay is not of royal blood. Finally, he tells Suman of the family curse. He forbids Suman to see Sanjay again. Suman persuades Sanjay and his friends to come with her to the ancient temple in the countryside where the head of Samri was buried. There, she believes, they will be able to lay the curse to rest and she and Sanjay will be free to have a relationship.

The most successful of the Ramsay’s many films, PURANA MANDIR is something of a legend in Indian film circles. It’s the movie that singlehandedly kicked off the brief mini boom in horror that swept through the Indian film business in the late 1980s. Then film benefits enormously from the performance of Anirudh Agarwal as Samri. He is an evil force of nature as he rampages through the film, determined to eliminate every last member of Harriman Singh’s family. The film has some of the very best horror sequences in the entire Ramsay catalog and is a genuine tour&345;de force for all involved. An essential classic of Indian horror cinema.

In this searing horror anthology, the seven deadly sins are reimagined through the twisted visions of underground cinema’s boldest voices.

7 SINS is a searing, subversive horror anthology that reimagines the seven deadly sins through the twisted visions of underground cinema’s boldest voices. Each segment explores a sin not by doctrine, but through raw, human impulse creating a portrait of desire, despair, and decay.

The nightmare begins with Dario Almerighi’s WRATH, where a jogger’s barely contained rage explodes. Sam Mason-Bell’s haunting ENVY follows a couple lured into a tragic erotic encounter, while SLOTH, from Francesco Foletto and Elisa Carrera Fumagalli, spirals into self-harm. Michael J. Epstein’s PRIDE tackles religious repression and fractured identity. LUST, by Domiziano Cristopharo, explores a disturbing AI relationship. Jason Impey’s GLUTTONY riffs on grindhouse cannibal flicks, while Poison Rouge’s GREED closes the anthology with a harrowing tale of sex work, debt and damnation.

Dripping in gore, laced with nudity, and steeped in sorrow, 7 SINS is more than shock for shock’s sake, it’s a meditation on why we fall.

The rare film with a reputation that speaks for itself, Martyrs is perhaps the defining film of the New French Extremity movement and director Pascal Laugier’s masterpiece. Horrifying and thought-provoking in equal measure, it is a deeply philosophical and challenging work of extreme cinema – and undoubtedly one of the finest horror films produced in the twenty-first century. In 1971, a young Lucie Jurin (Jessie Pham) manages to escape from a slaughterhouse in which she has been subjected to unspeakable torture. Placed in an orphanage, she forms a strong bond with Anna (Erika Scott), who tries to help her to recover from her trauma. Fifteen years later and now in adulthood, Lucie (Mylène Jampanoï) breaks into the isolated home of the Belford family, believing that they were involved in the horrific abuse she suffered in childhood. When she receives a call from Lucie, Anna (Morjana Alaoui) rushes to her aid – but soon comes to regret ever having set foot in the Belford house, where she will experience things beyond human comprehension. Featuring heartbreaking performances by it’s two female leads and truly shocking imagery that lingers long in the mind courtesy of special effects designer Benoît Lestang, Martyrs has risen above debates surrounding “torture porn” to emerge as one of the truly great works of extreme cinema.
