Born in Blood (Vampire Queens Book 1) by Rachel L. Stedman Available April 30

Author: Rachel L. Stedman

Many vamps live ordinary lives, working as nurses, lorry drivers, teachers. But there is another group; the ones the stories are about. The dragons, the clan-leaders. Dragons are the reason we need the Houses; the reason Hunters exist.

My name is Madison, and I am a vampire hunter.

I’m deadly, fast and totally independent. I don’t need anyone’s help, least of all Brett O’Hagan’s. Sure, he’s good looking, and able to handle himself in a fight, but the last thing I need in my life is another complication. Although, when on business in Europe, I surprise a vamp attack on schoolgirls, Brett proves to be surprisingly useful.

Okay, so I’m grateful. Whatever. I’m not falling for him, oh no.

I have enough to do. My grandmother’s growing irritable (and since she’s a vampire, that’s a problem), plus Harry, my mentor, coach and father figure, has disappeared. And if that’s not enough, there’s trouble in the Hunter Houses, and rumors of a renegade dragon named Kade.

But Brett is amazingly good with his hands. In all the right ways.

Wicked World (1991) Available May 31

In 1989, filmmaker Barry J. Gillis and friends renewed the world’s faith in Canada with the horror brainbomb known as Things. But that was only the beginning. Wicked World is not only Gillis’ 1991 follow-up to Things―it’s also a new form of genre anarchy.

Grant Ekland (Gillis) is a cop who is haunted by the death of his girlfriend at the hands of a psychotic slasher named Harold. When Harold is released from an asylum, there’s only one option for Ekland: revenge! Filled with metal riffage, gnarly ultra-violence, and experimental techniques, Wicked World feels like what would happen if Salvador Dali injected acid directly into his brain while staring at a Cannibal Corpse LP cover. This is a highly personal treatise on the toxicity of society from one of the most singular filmmakers in trash-horror history

STARRING: Patti Anne Crossman, Maria Delgado, Kelly Felhaber

Finney Shaw, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy, is abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of little use. When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. And they are dead set on making sure that what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney.

Starring four-time Oscar® nominee Ethan Hawke in the most terrifying role of his career and introducing Mason Thames in his first ever film role, The Black Phone is produced, directed, and co-written by Scott Derrickson, the writer-director of Sinister, The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Marvel’s Doctor Strange.

The film’s screenplay is by Derrickson & C. Robert Cargill (Doctor Strange, Sinister franchise), based on the award-winning short story by Joe Hill from his New York Times bestseller 20th Century Ghosts. The film is produced by Derrickson & Cargill’s Crooked Highway and presented by Universal and Blumhouse. Jason Blum, Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill are producers on the film, which is executive produced by Ryan Turek and Christopher H. Warner.

FleshEater (1988) Available May 31

While assisting on a dig, a construction worker accidentally destroys the final resting place of a demonic zombie, rousting him from his unholy slumber, and reigniting his taste for human flesh. Meanwhile, a group of teenagers have decided to spend the night camping in the woods for a Halloween hayride, only to have their partying interrupted with the arrival of an ever-growing army of bloodthirsty undead! Will anyone survive the night in one piece?

A lo-fi gore epic directed by actor and cinematographer Bill Hinzman (The Crazies), star zombie in the classic Night of the Living Dead, FleshEater (aka Revenge of the Living Dead) is a fitting tribute and homage to Romero’s chilling masterpiece, updating the setting to the late 1980s while piling on the gut munching, throat ripping, and limb tearing action. Vinegar Syndrome is delighted to bring this highly ambitious slice of regional madness to 4K UHD and Blu-ray, in a brand new, eye popping (and gouging) restoration from its original 16mm camera negative, presented in its cinematographer and producer approved 1.33:1 aspect ratio for the first time on disc, along with a host of brand new extra features!

Burglar From Hell (1993) Available May 31

A marauding, muscle-bound burglar named Frank the Tank violently invades the home of an elderly woman who promptly turns the tables; killing him with a shotgun and burying his corpse in her backyard before abruptly dropping dead from a heart attack. Several years later, a group of young friends unsuspectingly vacation together at the aforementioned beach house. When their new, witchcraft obsessed acquaintance Token attempts to conjure up a rain spell, she inadvertently brings Frank the Tank back from the grave. One by one the guests are gruesomely dispatched by the wise cracking, pizza-faced, undead burglar in a staggering flurry of maniacal murder and mayhem.

A seminal SOV standout from the early ’90s mail order horror boom, Burglar From Hell built a dedicated following in the underground with its riotous mix of practical splatter effects, low-brow toilet humor, gratuitous nudity, and unexpected attempts at social commentary. An engaging time capsule of 1990s Queens, New York that is notable as the feature debut of indie scream queen Debbie D. (Eaten Alive: A Tasteful Revenge), Burglar From Hell helped put filmmaker Phil Herman (Tales Till The End) and his Falcon Video collective on the micro-budget map and continues to intrigue audiences with its endearing homespun charms and bewildering bouts of camcorder phantasmagoria.

STARRING: Debbie D., Bryant Sohl, Barry Gaines

Nosferatu “Ellen sends Thomas to fetch Professor Bulwer” Clip

The turning point in the career of legendary director F.W. Murnau (Sunrise, The Last Laugh), the screen’s first, albeit unauthorised adaptation of Bram Stoker’s DRACULA (which itself celebrates its 125th Anniversary this year) features Max Schreck’s unforgettable performance as the vampire Count Orlok, the most chilling portrayal of cadaverous evil in film history. Although a court order to destroy the film was successfully brought by Stoker’s widow, some copies escaped, and subsequently gave the 20th century some of its defining images of supernatural terror and dread. A decades-long search for the best surviving material and a re-recording of the original score by Hans Erdmann now allows us to see the film exactly as it premiered 100 years ago.

A towering masterpiece whose legacy is truly incalculable, Nosferatu remains as mesmerising – and haunting – as ever.
