The NBC TV movie that launched the revival presents four stories: in “Incident in a Small Jail,” Larry Broome (Ned Beatty) stops in a small town to get gas for his car and runs into trouble; in “Man from the South,” Carlos (John Huston) proposes a weird deal to a down-and-out gambler (Steven Bauer), who will win a sports car if he can light his lighter ten times in a row, or lose his finger if he can’t; in “Bang! You’re Dead!,” little Amanda (Bianca Rose) wants to play army with the boys, but they tell her she needs a gun before she can join them; and in “An Unlocked Window,” nurse Stella (Annette O’Toole) stays in a house on a stormy night, thinking she is safe, while a killer is in the vicinity.
