FX’s Longest-Running Hour-Long Series Lives to Scream Another Season
FX has officially handed American Horror Story a 14th season, as first reported by Variety. The pickup lands just ahead of the Season 13 finale, which is set for Oct. 29.
The current season has played out like a full-blown homecoming for the anthology, bringing back longtime favorites Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe and Leslie Grossman. Frances Conroy, Jamie Brewer, John Carroll Lynch, Mena Suvari and Mat Fraser are back in the mix too, along with Seth Gabel from the spinoff American Horror Stories. The reason for all those familiar faces? Joey Pollari plays a hospice care worker with a fear of the number 13 whose patients turn out to be characters from earlier seasons.
Pollari is one of several first-timers in the franchise this year, a group that also includes Avantika, Elle Chapman, Berto Colon, Alex Consani, Orlando Jones, Paul Anthony Kelly, Tig Notaro, Madelaine Petsch, Fedor Steer, Zach Villa and John Waters, among others.
The reunion strategy clearly paid off with viewers. Per Variety’s reporting, Season 13 pulled in 4 million views over its first four days, “the best streaming performance of any premiere in the series’ history.” That start is all the more impressive coming after a three-year gap since Season 12, Delicate, premiered in 2023. Since launching in 2011, the Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk creation has generated more than 2 billion hours of engagement.
