Her mother went missing. She sent messages pretending she was still alive. Then police discovered her mother’s remains inside a washing machine. And somehow, the investigation into Andreína Lamota would uncover another disturbing disappearance connected to the same apartment.
In October 2025, Martha Cecilia Solís Cruz disappeared from Guayaquil, Ecuador. Her daughter, Andreína Lamota, claimed her mother had left their apartment to meet someone and never returned.
As Martha’s family desperately searched for answers, Andreína appeared to be helping. But behind the scenes, investigators would discover that she had allegedly been constructing an elaborate web of lies to convince everyone her mother was still alive.
Messages were sent from Martha’s phone. A false online identity was used to suggest she had gone travelling. Andreína even wore her mother’s clothes and travelled around Guayaquil, apparently attempting to create the impression that Martha had been spotted alive.
There was just one rather enormous problem.
Martha had never left their apartment.
When police finally entered the property in Sauces 9, they discovered a horrific crime scene. Martha’s dismembered remains had been concealed inside a front-loading washing machine and containers within the home she shared with her daughter.
And the evidence investigators uncovered was extraordinary.
Internet searches about disposing of human remains. CCTV footage that contradicted Andreína’s account. Messages designed to mislead Martha’s family. And a confession that exposed what had actually happened behind closed doors.
Andreína Lamota was eventually convicted of her mother’s murder and sentenced to 40 years in prison.
But the investigation had uncovered something else.
Among the belongings found inside the apartment were items connected to Jeniffer Juliana Banguera Cornejo, a young woman who had disappeared in January 2022 after visiting Andreína.
Suddenly, a missing-person case from years earlier was back under investigation.
And the woman already convicted of murdering her mother was facing an entirely new criminal investigation into the death of her friend.
This is the deeply disturbing true story of Andreína Lamota, Martha Cecilia Solís Cruz and Jeniffer Banguera — a shocking Ecuadorian true crime case involving a missing mother, an elaborate deception, disturbing forensic evidence, a horrific discovery inside a washing machine and a second disappearance that would raise even more questions.
A true crime deep dive into the Sauces 9 murder investigation, the evidence that exposed Andreína’s lies, her 40-year prison sentence and the separate criminal proceedings surrounding Jeniffer Banguera.
Because while everyone was searching Guayaquil for Martha, the truth was sitting inside the home she had never even left.
