A Creepy Campfire Tale Starts Looking Back at the Player
The team behind the Steins;Gate and Chaos;Child games is trading science for the supernatural, and its new ghost story finally has a date. MAGES. will release Seeker Eye (known in Japan as Shikai) on February 25, 2027 in Japan for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch, with the Switch 2 version newly added to the lineup, and Gematsu has the rundown. Pre-orders opened alongside a brand-new opening movie.
The story follows Shigeaki Nogawa, a chain-smoking editor at an occult magazine, who comes across a ghost story called “The Ghost Story of the Red Roof House.” On the surface it’s a harmless tale about kids daring each other to explore an abandoned home, until a young woman turns up claiming to be the girl from the story. Nogawa’s digging soon ties the tale to a string of strange deaths that seem to follow its script, and the deeper he goes, the more the supernatural pushes back.
Most of the game plays like a classic visual novel, but once the clock creeps toward the dead of night, a special mode kicks in that lets players see through the eyes of the entity itself, spying on the private lives of everyone tangled up in the legend. MAGES. has been building the in-world ghost story on YouTube since 2024, and the publisher pitches the game as one that drags the player into the haunting along with its characters.
The voice cast includes Tomokazu Sugita, Azusa Aoi, Rikako Aida, Ryotaro Okiayu and Mariko Honda, while Science Adventure regular Kanako Itou and singer Masatoshi Ono handle the twin theme songs and Takeshi Abo composes the score. The standard edition runs 6,380 yen, and a 9,680 yen limited edition adds a visual book styled after the game’s fictional occult magazine plus a soundtrack DVD-ROM. Physical copies are limited to PlayStation 5 and Switch 2, the latter on a game-key card, while the Switch version is download-only.
