The Mindhunter Star Steps Back Into the Dark for One More Cat-and-Mouse Game
Holt McCallany spent two seasons of Mindhunter sitting across the table from real-life monsters, and now he’s returning to that grim territory on the big screen. Sales outfit Stoic is shopping the finished film to international buyers ahead of the American Film Market, and Deadline broke the news along with a first-look image.
McCallany plays Ron Lee, a celebrated investigator who has long since hung up the badge. Retirement doesn’t stick for long once a string of ritual-style murders starts closing in on him personally, and Ron is forced into a battle of wits with a calculating, cruel killer who has been building toward one last grand finale.
James Khanlarian, who previously made the supernatural chiller The Ghost Trap, directs from an adaptation of James Robert Fuller’s novel. Zak Steiner (Euphoria), Lily Donoghue (The Summer I Turned Pretty) and Xander Berkeley (Apollo 13) round out the cast. Writer-producer Peter A. Couture II was effusive about his lead, saying McCallany “became Ron Lee.” April Aguilera, Couture and Khanlarian produce, with Khanlarian Entertainment and Sweet Kop Films behind the project and Larry Mortorff, Barry Krost and Jonathan Clay Harris serving as executive producers.
