The Bat (1959) Available August 22

#horror – #horrormovies – #TheBat – #DigicomLtd –

The Bat is a 1959 American mystery film starring Vincent Price and Agnes Moorehead. Cornelia Van Gorder (Agnes Moorehead) is a mystery writer who rents a summer home in a small town from a local bank president John Fleming (Harvey Stephens). Over $1 million in securities is discovered missing from the bank while Fleming is on a hunting trip with his physician, Dr. Malcolm Wells (Vincent Price). Fleming confesses to Wells that he stole the securities and offers to split the money with Wells in return for help in faking his own death and threatens to kill him if he doesn’t agree to help. A forest fire breaks out nearby and Wells shoots Fleming and uses the fire to cover up the murder. Meanwhile, the town is being terrorized by a mysterious murderer known as ‘The Bat’. The Bat is said to be a man with no face who murders women at night by ripping out their throats with steel claws. The Bat breaks into the house and releases a real bat which bites Van Gorder’s maid. Van Gorder calls Dr. Wells to treat the bite. Wells (Vincent Price) is in his laboratory doing experiments on bats and leaves to go to Van Gorder’s assistance. Wells catches the bat that bit Van Gorder’s maid and checks her wounds. Van Gorder is then visited by detectives who are investigating the stolen securities from the bank and discover blueprints which may indicate in the house walls where the stolen money has been hidden. The women are told to go to bed, but soon after The Bat re-enters the house and cuts the phone lines and goes to the third floor where he begins chiselling a hole in one of the walls. The plot thickens when Van Gorder investigates the room where the noise was coming from and realizes there is a secret room behind the wall where The Bat was chiselling. She accidentally traps herself in the room and things go from bad to worse as the identity of The Bat becomes apparent. This is a classic horror movie with a memorable cast and an unforgettable plot.

Author: Genevieve Valentine

A dark, contemporary interpretation of the Persephone myth for fans of The Invisible Life of Addie Larue and The Sandman.

Death stole Emilia – the first time in his very long life that he hasn’t carried over the soul he was assigned to carry over. It would be romantic, except that they’re being hunted. And as Emilia and the man with the veil of smoke set out for the ocean in a stolen truck, there is a bloody handprint on his neck and she’s beginning to worry it’s hers.

Illustrated in competing points of view, narration comes from both Death and Amelia, giving the story conflicting, yet unique perspectives.

Two Graves is the first volume of a new series from writer Genevieve Valentine and illustrated by Annie Wu and Ming Doyle.

This edition features bonus backmatter content, including essays by bestselling Broken Earth trilogy author N.K. Jemisin, Sarah McCarry (Lambda, Norton, and Tiptree nominee), Veronica Schanoes (Shirley Jackson Award winner, Nebula, and World Fantasy nominee), and Stephanie Lai (Best New Talent Ditmar Award, 2018).

The Terror / Little Shop Of Horrors (Double Feature) Available December 12

#horror – #horrormovies – #TheTerror – #LittleShopOfHorrors – #FilmMasters –

The two sides of Roger Corman are represented with The Terror (1963) and The Little Shop of Horrors (1960). Corman’s Gothic, spooky side is on display in The Terror, an atmospheric horror tale of a French soldier whose encounter with a ghostly woman leads him to a mysterious castle full of dark secrets. The pairing of a youthful Jack Nicholson as the soldier and veteran Boris Karloff as the castle’s owner make The Terror a memorable example of Corman’s mid-sixties Goth period. Though Corman is credited as director, several others took a turn behind the camera, including Nicholson himself, Monte Hellman, and Francis Ford Coppola. Meanwhile,Corman’s more whimsical side is on display in The Little Shop of Horrors. This legendary cult film features a bumbling florist’s assistant who creates a giant plant that happens to crave human blood. The usual Corman stock company is on hand, including Jonathan Haze and Dick Miller, plus a cameo by Nicholson as a dental patient with a high threshold for pain.

EARNEST GLECKMAN is a good kid with exceptional grades in his senior year at college…his only quirk is the rock band he sings in every Saturday night. He enjoys the rock esthetic and “dressing the role” if not acting like a nihilistic punk.

All that is changed when he is mortally wounded, he discovers he must “pay down his new lease on life” by serving as a part time fixer for a death cult as EVIL ERNIE.

The polar opposite of EARNEST. ERNIE is vicious and cruel and sadistic as he employs all manner of torture or murder (or oft-times both!) against his targets.

EARNEST is stable, good, focused. ERNIE is a chaotic, evil, anarchist.

Author: Stephen Graham Jones

The New York Times–bestselling author of The Only Good Indians and My Heart Is a Chainsaw makes his comics debut with this time-hopping horror thriller about far-future Indigenous outcasts on a mission to kill Christopher Columbus.

The year is 2112, and it’s the apocalypse exactly as expected: rivers receding, oceans rising, civilization crumbling. Humanity has given up hope, except for a group of Indigenous outcasts who have discovered a time travel portal in a cave in the desert and figured out where everything took a turn for the worst: America.

Convinced that the only way to save the world is to rewrite its past, they send one of their own—a reluctant linguist named Tad—on a bloody, one-way mission to 1492 to kill Christopher Columbus before he reaches the so-called New World. But there are steep costs to disrupting the timeline, and taking down an icon isn’t an easy task for an academic with no tactical training and only a wavering moral compass to guide him. As the horror of the task ahead unfolds and Tad’s commitment is tested, his actions could trigger a devastating new fate for his friends and the future.

Join Stephen Graham Jones and artist Davide Gianfelice for Earthdivers, Vol. 1, the beginning of an unforgettable ongoing sci-fi slasher spanning centuries of America’s Colonial past to explore the staggering forces of history and the individual choices we make to survive it.
