When a British scientist disappears in the jungles of New Guinea, his wife hires an American anthropologist to lead her deep into the green inferno.

THE WORLDWIDE UHD PREMIERE

After creating some of the best gialli of the ’70s, director Sergio Martino (ALL THE COLORS OF THE DARK) entered the cannibal cycle with this “blood and guts gorefest” (Trailers From Hell) that “still packs a punch” (Rock! Shock! Pop!) and is presented in UHD for the first time ever: When a British scientist disappears in the jungles of New Guinea, his wife (Ursula Andress) hires an American anthropologist (Stacy Keach) to lead her deep into a green inferno of graphic violence, steamy nudity and several of the most notorious scenes in the entire genre. Claudio Cassinelli (THE GREAT ALLIGATOR) co-stars in what Daily Grindhouse hails as “ROMANCING THE STONE for deviants,” now scanned in 4K from the original camera negative with over 3 hours of Special Features that include a new interview with Martino.

In a jungle hell that has no pity for man, the survivors of a plane crash are hunted by a primitive tribe with a taste for torment.

THE NORTH AMERICAN UHD PREMIERE

For the first film in his unofficial ‘Cannibal Trilogy,’ director Ruggero Deodato (CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST, HOUSE ON THE EDGE OF THE PARK) delivered a depraved adventure that’s been called “well made and meaty” (Malevolent Dark), “gripping and shocking” (Monster Hunter) and “easily the most savage of the entire genre” (Fantastic Movie Musings), presented in UHD for the first time ever: In a jungle hell that has no pity for man, the survivors of a plane crash are hunted by a primitive tribe with a taste for torment. Massimo Foschi (NINE GUESTS FOR A CRIME), Ivan Rassimov (SACRIFICE!) and Me Me Lai (EATEN ALIVE) star in this ultra-graphic gut-muncher – also known as JUNGLE HOLOCAUST, THE LAST SURVIVOR and CANNIBAL – “that raised the bar in terms of extreme gore and nastiness” (The Worldwide Celluloid Massacre), now scanned in 4K from the original negative with over 2½ hours of Special Features.

The Ghost Of Yotsuya (1959) Available June 24

#horror – #horrormovies – #TheGhostOfYotsuya – #RadianceFilms – @FilmsRadiance –

A collection of three of Japan’s most famous ghost stories that have haunted people for centuries.

Samurai Iemon (Kazuo Hasegawa, Gate of Hell) has grown distant from his wife Oiwa since she miscarried. Oume, the pretty young daughter of a wealthy family, falls madly in love with Iemon after he saves her from a group of drunk swordsmen. Oiwa learns about the blossoming affair and grows despondent. Without his knowledge, Iemon’s associates conspire to clear the way for him to marry Oume by poisoning his wife. But Oiwa returns from the grave as a horribly disfigured ghost to haunt Iemon and her tormentors.

Director Kenji Misumi (Lone Wolf and Cub) and writer Fuji Yahiro (Sansho the Bailiff, A Bloody Spear at Mt. Fuji) turn the quintessential Japanese ghost story into a profoundly resonant doomed romance, with chilling ghost scenes that would leave a deep mark on the creators of J-horror.

STARRING: Narutoshi Hayashi, Ryônosuke Azuma, Setsuko Hama, Yôko Uraji

Samurai Shinzaburo is visited by a beautiful courtesan. Captivated by her beauty, he agrees to marry her, but fails to realise she is a ghost.

Noble samurai Shinzaburo (Kojiro Hongo, Gamera) is visited one night by the beautiful courtesan Otsuyu (Miyoko Akaza, Lady Snowblood). She pleads with him to marry her and save her from life in a brothel. Instantly captivated by her beauty, Shinzaburo agrees and a cautious love affair develops, but in his infatuation, he fails to realise that Otsuyu is a ghost. His friends band together to drive off the spirit, but can the love-stricken Shinzaburo resist the haunting lure of this enchantress?

Working from a script by Ugetsu’s Yoshikata Yoda, original Shinobi director Satsuo Yamamoto brings this classic Japanese ghost tale to the screen with breathtaking stylistic beauty. His visualisation of the alluring female ghost prefigures A Chinese Ghost Story and greatly inspired the J-horror movement.

I, Madman (1989) (Kino Cult #31) Available June 17

#horror – #horrormovies – #IMadman – #KinoCult – @kino_cult –

Book store clerk Virginia (Jenny Wright) loves to lose herself in a good novel, but when she cracks the spine of a horror pulp called I, Madman, she conjures the book’s monstrous author/villain Malcolm Brand (Randall William Cook). As grisly murders begin to occur around her, Virginia finds it difficult to distinguish fact from fiction, and even more difficult to convince anyone that the hideous character is real. Brand, who reconstructs his disfigured face by carving away the flesh of his victims, is one of the more memorable horror villains of the 1980s (the decade that gave us Jason, Freddy, and Chucky). Director Tibor Takács cleverly frames Brand’s appearances in DePalma-style setpieces, doling out shock and suspense in careful measures, making I, Madman an unforgettable cinematic page-turner.

STARRING: Jenny Wright, Clayton Rohner, Randall William Cook, Stephanie Hodge
