When money lender Soetsu goes to collect a debt from samurai Fukami, the swordsman’s wife Sawano offers to repay with her body. Finding them in bed, Fukami kills them and dumps their corpses in a nearby swamp, but soon after he himself is found dead in an apparent suicide. Fukami’s delinquent son Shingoro and Soetsu’s shrewd daughter Oshiga both go in search of the money. As they cross paths, it becomes clear that the curse has passed to the next generation when the ghosts of Sawano and Soetsu begin to haunt them and bring misfortune at every turn.
