Britain’s first colour zombie film isn’t the one you’re thinking of. It’s a Cornish horror shot in the sleepy village of Porthcarron, and it’s every bit as macabre as that opening claim promises. Hazel Court and Kieron Moore give it real bite under the direction of Sidney J. Furie, working from a script by Oscar-winning Nathan Juran, with camera-work from a then-unknown Nicolas Roeg.
Dr Peter Blood (Moore) has appointed himself judge, jury and surgeon. Convinced his gift for creating life from death is only for those he deems “worthy,” he stalks the locals of Porthcarron, paralysing them with curare before dragging them into his underground laboratory to harvest their still-beating hearts.
