Some men chase the mountain for glory. Tom Friend chases it for profit, and the mountain, quite literally, has the last word.
In the climax of The Abominable Snowman (1957), Friend’s decision to open fire on the encroaching Yetis triggers the avalanche that buries him alive. It’s a fittingly merciless end for a man who spent the whole film putting greed above everyone else’s survival, his own included.
Is this the most satisfying comeuppance in a Hammer film?
