The Sinister Trio Reunites for a Late-Night Call-In Show Where the Static Talks Back
Ethan Hawke, Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill are working together again, this time swapping the big screen for your headphones with Midnight Radio, a scripted horror podcast from iHeartPodcasts whose first episode is out now, as first reported by Collider. Hawke stars as the host of a long-running, cult-favorite AM talk program that takes calls from conspiracy theorists and listeners who insist they have brushed up against the supernatural.
Things go sideways when one caller says he was part of a U.S. space mission that history has erased. From there the broadcast unravels in real time into government secrets, breaches between dimensions and psychological warfare, as odd signals begin bleeding through the static and the host starts to wonder who, or what, is really on the line.
Derrickson and Cargill co-created the series, which Hawke and Ryan Hawke’s Under The Influence Productions produce with Crooked Highway and iHeartPodcasts. Noah Centineo, Vincent D’Onofrio, Willa Fitzgerald, Levon Hawke, Austin Pendleton and Hubert Point-Du Jour are among the voices phoning in. Hawke told Collider the idea grew out of the trio’s shared love of The Twilight Zone, Orson Welles’ War of the Worlds broadcast and Art Bell’s paranormal radio show, calling it his “first DIY podcast.” The opening story spans nine episodes, with new installments arriving every Thursday at 12 a.m. PT / 3 a.m. ET.
