A Celebrated Horror Author’s Creative Slump Takes a Murderous Turn
Filming is complete on director Craig Singer’s new horror feature, and the production has shared its first image of Tony winner Jack Falahee in the lead role, as first reported by Deadline. The picture is now in post-production.
Falahee stars as Mitch James, a horror novelist at the peak of his fame who hits a wall creatively, and the dry spell soon becomes deadly. Saphira Moran plays a devoted reader who becomes his girlfriend, and her fixation on him spirals into something dangerous. The story traps its once-celebrated author in an endless loop of making and destroying, using the premise to dig into what an artist will sacrifice for their work.
Singer, a former creative VP at Disney, wrote the film with horror writer Robert Dean Klein, his collaborator on the award-winning 6:45. The director told Deadline the project has been in development for years and that the rise of AI in creative fields made the material feel even more timely, adding that the movie “isn’t about jump scares; it’s a philosophic fable for our times.”
The supporting cast features Jackie Earle Haley, The Thing veteran Thomas G. Waites, Terrifier’s Catherine Cocoran, Chris Noth, Carrie Jo Crosby, Armen Garo, Michael Rodrick and Elias Koteas. Singer’s Cascrator Films is producing alongside Australia’s Three777 Films. No premiere date has been set.
