The Battlestar Galactica Star Plays a Former Figure Skater Consumed by a Forbidden Obsession
Battlestar Galactica and Lucifer star Tricia Helfer has landed the lead role in Devour, the erotic body horror feature from writer-director Erica Orofino, as first reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Georgia Bradner (Ghosts, Resident Alien) and Elizabeth Adams round out the cast of the Wildling Pictures production.
Helfer plays Luisa, a former professional figure skater facing compulsions she cannot control as she becomes dangerously fixated on Karla, her daughter’s friend, played by Bradner. According to the producers’ synopsis, a forbidden attraction becomes an obsession and a self-destructive unravelling of Luisa’s life in increasingly terrifying and transgressive ways. Adams plays Luisa’s daughter, Elia.
“I loved how dark and psychological the story was. Erica wasn’t afraid to go there, and that’s what made me want to be part of it,” Helfer said. Orofino added that she wanted “to make a film about self-identity, female sexuality and desires that exist outside our dominant norms or moral codes,” and said of her star, “She will grip your heartstrings and your guts and not let go.”
Devour marks Orofino’s feature debut following her body horror short Dirty Bad Wrong, which won a Silver Audience Choice Award at Fantasia. Matt Code, Alison Almeida and Lucy McNulty are producing, with Todd Brown, Kiersten Hanly, Emily O’Quinn Code, Mike Chapman and Fatima Hayward executive producing. Blue Finch Films is handling worldwide sales outside Canada. Wildling Pictures recently brought the thriller Phreaker to Fantastic Fest.
