Carrie White’s Story Is Far From Finished After a Season That Rewrote the Ending
Prime Video is bringing Carrie back for another round, as first reported by Variety. The pickup comes only two weeks after Mike Flanagan’s eight-episode take on Stephen King’s 1974 debut novel premiered on Oct. 7, and the next chapter will push the story into territory the book never touched.
Summer H. Howell plays Carrie White, a sheltered teenager who has spent years shut away at home under the watch of her devout, overbearing mother, Margaret (Samantha Sloyan). The sudden death of her father lands Carrie in public high school, where a viral bullying scandal, the everyday cruelty of social media and her own awakening telekinetic powers all come crashing together.
The ensemble also features Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton, Joel Oulette, Josie Totah, Arthur Conti, Thalia Dudek, Amber Midthunder and Matthew Lillard. Flanagan stays on as showrunner and executive producer, with King executive producing as well. Amazon MGM Studios television chief Peter Friedlander pointed to the show’s pull with both longtime King readers and a younger, global audience, while Flanagan said the creative team always pictured a story that “goes far beyond the prom.”
