Psychic Agent Susan Xiang Hunts a Vanished Government Insider Through the Shadows of the Hellboy Universe
The Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense is opening a new case file, with Mike Mignola and Chris Roberson co-writing a fresh Dark Horse miniseries that arrives in February 2027, as first reported by IGN. Mike Norton (Battlepug) handles interior art, longtime Hellboy colorist Dave Stewart returns on colors, and the debut issue also carries a variant cover by Gabriel Hardman.
The story picks up with Susan Xiang, the psychic agent last seen digging into her family’s ties to the secretive Golden Crane Society in 2025’s The Shadow of the Golden Crane. This time she partners with Victor Koestler, a fellow agent who can leave his body and travel on the astral plane, to track down Henry Rouch, a man who disappeared while working on a classified government project overseas. The strange conditions around his vanishing bring in the Bureau, and the pair quickly realize the case runs far deeper than a simple missing-person search.
Roberson explained that the creative team has been hinting at a hidden occult cold war in the margins of recent Hellboy and B.P.R.D. stories, and this series finally moves that conflict to center stage, making clear that the Bureau’s agents “aren’t the only players on the board.” Issue #1 is set for February 17, 2027, and fans can preorder it now through their local comic shop.
