A Daughter’s Search for Her Missing Mother Uncovers a Buried Family Curse in Henry Chaisson’s Festival Favorite
Festival-circuit chiller Recluse has found a home on this side of the Atlantic, with Vertical picking up North American rights and planning a theatrical release in the first half of 2027, as first reported by Deadline. The film, which premiered at Tribeca before playing Fantasia and FrightFest, marks the feature directing debut of Servant alum Henry Chaisson, who also wrote it. Paranormal Activity producer Steven Schneider of Spooky Pictures serves as an executive producer.
Sasha Frolova leads the cast as Joan, a woman pulled back to her childhood home after a fire leaves her estranged father hurt. Once there, she starts hearing strange audio recordings tied to her mother’s disappearance years earlier and sets out to reconstruct what happened in her mother’s final days. The deeper she digs, the clearer it becomes that the vanishing fits into a long pattern of misfortune haunting the family, and that someone is working hard to keep the truth hidden. Xander Berkeley, Toby Poser, Mia Vallet, Kimball Farley and Frankie Seratch round out the ensemble.
Schneider had a vivid pitch for the film, saying it “gets under your skin, then claws its way back out,” and pointing to Vertical as an increasingly reliable destination for quality horror. Recluse is a co-production of Points North and Restricted Pictures, the duo now in post-production on another genre project, Night After Night.
