The Last Drive-In Host’s Cult Reviews Return in an Oversized Hardcover
Horror host Joe Bob Briggs is putting his early drive-in writing back on shelves through a new deluxe hardcover, as announced by Dark Horse Comics. The 240-page, 9-by-12-inch art book pulls together material from his long out-of-print collections Joe Bob Goes to the Drive-In and Joe Bob Goes Back to the Drive-In, and adds a batch of columns and reviews that have never been collected in book form.
Briggs said the plan started small, as a simple reprint of the second book, before it grew into a much bigger project gathering columns and reader letters from both volumes alongside reviews that haven’t surfaced since their original newspaper and magazine runs. The book is meant to reach longtime fans and a new crop of “mutants” who know him from The Last Drive-In.
The package features a new cover by Eric Powell, creator of The Goon, fresh interior illustrations by Battlepug creator Mike Norton and an introduction from Wayne Newton. It arrives in comic shops and bookstores next summer at a cover price of $54.99, and preorders are open now.
