Apple TV and Legendary Television are reportedly in talks to bring back Monarch: Legacy of Monsters for a third season, only with a new showrunner, a new writers room and some fresh Titans to stomp around in. Variety got it from an “individual with knowledge of the situation,” which is about as close to a blood oath as Hollywood gets.
New Writers, New Showrunner, Same Very Large Lizard Problem
Nothing is signed yet, but the plan for Season 3 reportedly calls for a new showrunner, a new team of writers and new Titans pulled from Legendary’s MonsterVerse. Several people have apparently already been approached about taking over the series. What nobody is saying yet is whether any of the characters from the first two seasons would make it into the third.
The show premiered on Apple TV in 2023, and Season 2 arrived in February 2026. Chris Black and Matt Fraction created the series, with Black serving as showrunner and executive producer on Season 2. Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell of Safehouse Pictures executive produce, while Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita executive produce on behalf of Toho, the company that owns Godzilla.
The Wyatt Russell spinoff is still moving ahead separately. Russell returns as Col. Lee Shaw in a story set in 1984, with Shaw on a mission to stop the Soviets from unleashing a devastating new Titan. Harold is the showrunner on that one, and the cast also includes Millie Brady, Pilou Asbæk, Corey Stoll, Ralph Ineson, Nyasha Hatendi, Connie Nielsen and Stana Katic.
