69 years ago today, British horror was changed forever.
On 20th May 1957, The Curse of Frankenstein opened in UK cinemas, and audiences had never seen anything like it. In this iconic scene, Christopher Lee’s Creature is unveiled in a jagged, shocking zoom: a mutilated, green-faced creature in vivid Technicolour. A new era had begun.
With Peter Cushing as the coldly brilliant Baron Frankenstein and Lee as his horrifying creation, this was the film that proved Hammer could terrify the world, and launched one of the greatest partnerships in cinema history.
This is the scene that started it all.
Starring: Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee
