The Stephen King Hotel Nightmare Checks Back In With New Leads and the Original Director
Room service is back at the Dolphin Hotel. Stranger Things breakout Natalia Dyer and horror regular Elijah Wood are boarding a sequel to the 2007 supernatural hit 1408, word comes via Variety, with original director Mikael Håfström returning to write and helm alongside co-writer Mark Verheiden.
Dyer is set to headline, with Wood in a supporting turn; character details are still under wraps. John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson — Michael Enslin and hotel manager Gerald Olin in the first film — are negotiating to come back in secondary roles rather than as the center of the story. Production is eyed for the first quarter of 2027.
Bluestone Entertainment and FilmNation Entertainment are co-financing. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Bluestone’s Richard Saperstein, Spyglass Media Group, and Frank Mayor produce, with FilmNation handling international sales and sharing domestic rights with WME Independent as the package hits AFM. The original MGM release, drawn from Stephen King’s 1999 short story, made about $132 million worldwide on a $25 million budget and became a durable cult favorite.
Cusack has long singled the title out as the one sequel he’d actually consider. “There’s one that I think would be interesting to do, which would be ‘1408,’” he told People in 2025.
