Cameras Are Rolling on a Centuries-Old Blood Feud Transplanted to Modern-Day London
Production is underway on Dracula: The Crimson Code, a present-day, female-led spin on the Dracula legend, as first reported by Variety. Amanda Jiang heads the cast, with Joey Phillips (Outlander), Richard Brake (Barbarian, Game of Thrones) and Shayne Ward (Coronation Street) rounding out the leads.
Jiang plays Countess Isolde Dragomir, an ageless vampire noblewoman who reigns over London’s most exclusive social scene. Her lavish Crimson Code parties hide a long-running war between two vampire families, the Dragomirs and the Howes, along with her centuries-long hunger to avenge the man who took her great love from her. When Isolde kills her old rival’s son, she lures him back into her world, but her scheme is thrown off course by Theo Mercer, a stranger she believes is her lost lover reborn. Theo, however, turns out to be his own person, leaving Isolde to decide whether she can finally let go of what she lost.
Andrea M. Catinella is directing from a screenplay by Enrico Tessarin, with filming taking place in London and the English countryside. The project comes from Starmist Films, whose debut feature City of Masks world premieres in London on Oct. 29. Jiang, who also produces, said the film lets her carry her “love of gothic storytelling into a much larger world.”
