Beauties & Beasts heads to St. Francisville, Louisiana, in this episode to dig into the history and hauntings of Myrtles Plantation. The story covers the legend of Chloe, the haunted mirror and the phantom footsteps on the staircase.
The footsteps were slow, heavy and unmistakable. Someone was climbing the stairs in the middle of the night. But when a paranormal researcher opened his bedroom door, the hallway was completely empty.
In St. Francisville, Louisiana, stands Myrtles Plantation, a historic estate established in 1794 and widely regarded as one of America’s most haunted houses. Behind its beautiful architecture lies a brutal history of slavery, suffering and death, alongside generations of disturbing ghost stories.
Among its most infamous legends is Chloe, an enslaved woman whose story has become inseparable from the plantation’s paranormal reputation. Visitors have reported mysterious apparitions, unexplained whispers and strange figures appearing in photographs. Then there’s the antique mirror, where ghostly handprints are said to appear no matter how often the glass is restored.
And perhaps most unsettling of all is the staircase, where visitors claim to hear footsteps climbing toward an empty hallway.
Are these hauntings echoes of a troubled past, or has something truly remained inside Myrtles Plantation?
