Every Bottle Grants a Wish, and Every Wish Has a Body Count
Chris LaMartina, the filmmaker behind the cult found-footage favorite WNUF Halloween Special, has another holiday-themed oddity on the way, this time built around New Year’s Eve, as first reported by Variety. The Terror Vision Original Productions film will travel the country on a screening roadshow before it lands on home video.
Pitched as a post-punk spin on “The Monkey’s Paw,” the story follows three one-time punk rockers, played by Sean Doherty, Melissa LaMartina and Trevor Wilhelms, who gather at a distillery on the last night of the year to honor a bandmate who has died. A peculiar sommelier (Matt Lake) offers them an exclusive tasting with one condition attached to each pour: a wish. Those wishes start curdling into catastrophes, and the friends learn the Red Bat Distillery collects a lethal tab.
Matt Baughman, Cate Paris and Tatiana Nya Ford round out the cast, and horror fans will spot cameos from author Grady Hendrix, novelist Clay McLeod Chapman, drag icon Peaches Christ and podcaster Henry Zebrowski. LaMartina directed and edited the film and co-wrote the script with Michael Varrati. Taking a page from Roger Corman’s playbook, the production wrapped in four days on a $40,000 budget, timed to mark LaMartina’s 40th birthday.
Roadshow stops will run from November into early January, with dates still to be announced, and LaMartina plus members of the cast are set to attend each screening. A Blu-ray release will come after the tour wraps.
