The Man Who Took Us Through Hell in Deep Space Is Going Back Out There
Nearly three decades after Event Horizon sent a rescue crew into a ship that had come back from somewhere very wrong, Paul W.S. Anderson is steering toward the void again. The Resident Evil filmmaker has signed on to direct big-screen versions of Nether Station and Nether Vortex, the Lovecraft-flavored science fiction novels from bestselling author Kevin J. Anderson, and Deadline broke the news. No relation, despite the shared surname.
The books center on Cammie Skoura, a gifted, neurodivergent astrophysicist who joins the first research mission to a wormhole lurking at the dark edge of the solar system. What the team finds there is not empty space but the crumbling temples and complexes of long-extinct alien races, monuments built for entities no human mind was meant to grasp, and a trail of clues pointing to whatever those elder civilizations accidentally set loose. The sequel picks up five years later with the station’s crew missing, a lone survivor waking from cryosleep with a dire warning, and an ancient enemy closing in on Earth.

The pairing is a natural one. The author has openly named Event Horizon as a major influence on the first novel, and he said he poured “all my fears and paranoia” into the story. The director, for his part, called the material Lovecraftian cosmic horror with all the ingredients for a terrifying night at the movies. Jonathan Wakeham (Midas Man, To Catch a Killer) is writing both screenplays.
Paul W.S. Anderson will also produce alongside his longtime collaborator Jeremy Bolt, who produced Event Horizon, plus Weird Tales president John Harlacher and Weird Tales film chief Tony Eldridge. Nether Station was published in 2024 under Blackstone Publishing’s Weird Tales Presents imprint, and Nether Vortex followed on October 27. No production start or release window has been announced.
