The FrightFest Opener Built Around a Silent Record Heads to Buyers Around the Globe
Voltage Pictures has picked up worldwide rights, with Korea carved out, to Abner Pastoll’s Seoul-shot chiller and will begin selling it at next week’s American Film Market. Deadline had the exclusive on the deal, which reunites Pastoll with his A Good Woman Is Hard to Find lead, Sarah Bolger.
Bolger plays Sarah, who moves to rural South Korea with her husband in a last-ditch bid to rescue their marriage. Inside the new house she finds an unlabeled vinyl record that plays nothing at all, and after she listens, men’s voices simply vanish from her hearing. Cut off and increasingly paranoid, she is pulled toward a mysterious woman next door while hallucinations blur the line between a breakdown and something genuinely malevolent. Ko Asung (The Host, Snowpiercer) and Sungsoo Yune (Smugglers) co-star.
The film opened FrightFest 2026 in London and has since collected two prizes at Screamfest in Los Angeles: Best Musical Score for composer Matthew Pusti and the first-ever ScareScore Biometric Best Picture Award. Its festival run continues with stops including MOTELX in Lisbon, Fantasy Filmfest in Germany, Razor Reel Flanders in Belgium, Tallinn Black Nights in Estonia and Japan’s YAMI Tokyo Horror Film Festival. Voltage’s Alexandra Cocean called it “bold, elevated horror” and said the company plans to screen it for buyers during the market.
Pastoll co-wrote the script with Richard Hobley and produced alongside Junyoung Jang. The South Korea-U.K. co-production comes from Story Robot and February Films, with Guillaume Benski, Youngmin Kim and Sangjin Lee serving as executive producers.
