The Gators Are Coming Back, and Alexandre Aja Just Filled Out the Menu
Paramount’s follow-up to Alexandre Aja’s 2019 alligator thriller is growing its ensemble. Five more actors have boarded the untitled sequel, among them Barbarian and Mandy standout Richard Brake, as first reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Joining him are Emmy nominee Sarah Niles, Ray Panthaki, Charley Palmer Rothwell and Flula Borg, who will play alongside the previously announced leads Mason Gooding and Emily Rudd.
Aja is back in the director’s chair and also co-wrote the script with Jason Harry Pagan, Andrew Deutschman and his longtime creative partner Gregory Levasseur. Sam Raimi returns to the producing side with Craig Flores and Aja, while Levasseur, Kevan Van Thompson and Zainab Azizi serve as executive producers. Story details haven’t been revealed yet.
The first film trapped Kaya Scodelario and Barry Pepper inside a flooding Florida house as a hurricane pushed a swarm of enormous gators into the crawl space. That lean survival setup turned a modest budget into more than $91 million at the worldwide box office and earned a strong following among creature-feature fans.
The new cast brings a mix of backgrounds. Niles picked up two Emmy nods for Ted Lasso, Panthaki appeared in The Serpent Queen and Boiling Point, Rothwell’s credits include Industry and Dunkirk, and Borg is known for The Suicide Squad and the Pitch Perfect films. Brake, meanwhile, adds some genre credibility after years of memorable villain turns.
