Saw Writers’ Label and a Horror Microdrama App Team Up on Shorts With Feature Ambitions
Vertical horror just picked up some Saw DNA. Genre label Vasaria Pictures — founded by franchise writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan with producers Sean Gowrie and Nick Phillips — has struck a pact with horror-focused microdrama streamer TerrorBox, and Deadline has the exclusive.
The companies will develop short-form horror, often with emerging filmmakers, and look to grow the strongest ideas into features. First up, TerrorBox will release Vasaria’s Hammer-flavored short Jezebel as a vertical series. Phillips directed; TikTok creator Claire Dellamar wrote and stars. The short already passed four million views on Alter, and Vasaria is developing a feature along the same path that turned internet horror into theatrical hits like Obsession and Backrooms.
They will also adapt Melton and Dunstan’s screenplay Fate into a vertical project, while Vasaria scouts TerrorBox’s library for feature candidates. TerrorBox launched earlier this year under Ryan Justice’s Box Entertainment Group alongside sibling genre apps, and has been stocking up on vertical titles such as Dead Signal plus the Nightmarish TV and Echo Cell libraries.
