The SXSW Breakout Director Teams With Vertigo and AWA’s Future of Fear Line for His Next Feature
Good Boy filmmaker Ben Leonberg is already lining up his next scare. He’ll direct and co-write a feature adaptation of the horror novella Look Out for Republic Pictures, Variety can reveal, reteaming with co-writer Alex Cannon from his dog’s-eye debut.
Roy Lee and Andrew Childs produce for Vertigo Entertainment, with Zach Studin producing for Artists Writers and Artisans. Written by Dan Baillie with art by Tim Bradstreet, Look Out arrived in May 2025 as the first title in Vertigo and AWA’s Future of Fear partnership. Plot specifics for the movie are under wraps for now, but the source novella gives Leonberg another contained, high-concept horror canvas after Good Boy — the SXSW 2025 favorite later acquired by IFC Films and Shudder — followed a dog trying to protect his ailing owner from a supernatural threat.
Leonberg is repped by Verve, Untitled and attorney Ryan Nord at The Nord Group.
