Whom The Gods Wish To Destroy (1967) Available July 11

#horror – #horrormovies – #WhomTheGodsWishToDestroy – #SinisterCinema – @sinistercinema –

Whom the Gods Wish to Destroy was originally released in the U.S. as a single feature film. However, like Fritz Lang’s Journey to the Lost City, it was culled from two separate films: Die Nibelungen, Teil 1 Siegfried and Die Nibelungen, Teil 2 Kriemhild’s Revenge, both of which were produced in Germany. In this special 2-disc edition we have included both films, both transferred from beautiful anamorphic 35mm elements. These are colossal movies, made especially great by Uwe Beyer as Siegfried and Karin Dor as Brunhilde. It is an epic story. With a magic sword in hand, Siegfried of Xanten, defeats the dragon that guards the treasure of Nibelungen. By bathing in the dragon’s blood he becomes invulnerable. He then sets off to Iceland to free the Icelandic Queen Brunhilde (Karin Dor) from her eternal slumber. The queen falls in love with him but he returns to Burgundy and falls for King Gunther’s beautiful sister, Kriemhild. Expressing a desire for a wife, Gunther is taken by Siegfried to Iceland where they use magic tricks to coerce Brunhilde into a promise of marriage. What follows is a torrent of intrigue and high adventure. There are many great scenes. These are easily two of the best fantasy epics of the 1960s. Subtitled in English. Great color, from 35mm.

STARRING: Karin Dor, Herbert Lom, Terence Hill

Ringu Original Trailer (Hideo Nakata 1998)

#horror – #Trailers – #horrormovies – #Ringu – @ArrowFilmsVideo –

In 1998, director Hideo Nakata (Dark Water) unleashed a chilling tale of technological terror on unsuspecting audiences, which redefined the horror genre, launched the J-horror boom in the West and introduced a generation of moviegoers to a creepy, dark-haired girl called Sadako. The film’s success spawned a slew of remakes, reimaginations and imitators, but none could quite boast the power of Nakata’s original masterpiece, which melded traditional Japanese folklore with contemporary anxieties about the spread of technology.

A group of teenage friends are found dead, their bodies grotesquely contorted, their faces twisted in terror. Reiko (Nanako Matsushima, When Marnie Was There), a journalist and the aunt of one of the victims, sets out to investigate the shocking phenomenon, and in the process uncovers a creepy urban legend about a supposedly cursed videotape, the contents of which causes anyone who views it to die within a week – unless they can persuade someone else to watch it, and, in so doing, pass on the curse…

WE ALL GO A LITTLE MAD SOMETIMES…

Shattering expectations and shocking audiences around the world, Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho changed the face of cinema in 1960. It remains one of the most iconic and influential movies ever made.

Twenty three years later, Australian filmmaker Richard Franklin (Patrick, Road Games) boldly followed in the master’s footsteps and directed Psycho II, a sequel that not only delivered on the promise of his earlier films, but also lived up to Hitchcock’s original. Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins) is declared sane and released from the facility in which he was being held, despite the complaints of Lila Loomis (neé Crane, Vera Miles) sister of Norman’s most famous victim. All Norman wants to do is live quietly and productively as a normal member of society. But is returning to the house he once shared with his mother, and running the motel that was the site of so many murders, really a good idea? Is he cured, or will he kill again?

This is a seven-part mini-series about a trip to the moon and all the dangers involved. It’s good old fashioned space opera, even if the special effects are a bit crude. It starts with four scientists taking off for the moon. A second rocket, an auto-piloted supply ship, is to follow. However, when the auto pilot goes awry on the supply ship, it must be manually flown or the explorers will die in space. This sends another scientist and three juvenile space veterans blasting off into the void.

The Man Who Lived Again (1936) Available July 11

Karloff does in this role, what Lugosi did in his role as Dr. Vollin in THE RAVEN. He let’s it all hang out as he plays the mad Dr. Laurience, who invents a fantastic device that transfers personalities from one body to another. Don’t confuse this title with some of Karloff’s later Columbia mad doctor pictures. This one was produced by British Gaumont and easily stands on it’s own merits. Great lab scenes and a terrific climax. One of the classic horror films of the 1930’s. Never seen it? You’re missing one helluva movie.

STARRING: Boris Karloff, John Loder, Donald Calthrop, Lyn Harding
