Criminally unseen in the West, The Dead And Deadly is a horror-action-comedy-special effects extravaganza in the in the same vein as MR. Vampire and Encounters Of The Spooky Kind. Directed by Wu Ma (one of Hong Kong cinema’s most beloved multi-hyphenates; over a 50-year career he was hugely successful in writing, directing, producing, and acting) in perhaps his best directorial effort, and also starring Sammo Hung – THE DEAD AND THE DEADLY is a must-see for both horror and action fans.

Wu Ma also stars as a man who fakes his death in order to steal his family’s funeral treasure. When the treasure is instead bequeathed to Ma’s unborn son, his co-conspirators kill him (for real this time). His vengeful spirit seeks out the help of his friend (played by Sammo Hung) and together they seek revenge on his murderers.

Master filmmaker Robert Wise began his career with horror classics The Curse of the Cat People and The Body Snatcher for producer Val Lewton. His career would go on to include westerns, thrillers, science fiction and musicals, earning him two Academy Awards for Best Director. In 1963 he returned to his Lewtonian roots with the classic ghost story The Haunting; In 1977 he returned once more with the supernatural thriller Audrey Rose.

All Bill and Jane Templeton wish for is a quiet, peaceful life with their 11-year-old daughter Ivy. But their dreams turn to nightmares as Ivy is besieged first by terrifying ‘memories’ of events that never occurred… and then by a mysterious stranger who stalks her every move, and claims that Ivy was in fact his daughter in another life.

Released in the wake of The Exorcist and The Omen, Audrey Rose is an intelligent, heartfelt drama that approaches its subject with an open mind and seriousness of intent that caught many off guard but typifies Wise’s previous genre forays. Sensitively played by a sterling cast at the top of their game, this underseen gem deserves a place on the shelf of any fan of classic horror.

Years ago, a desperate man killed a mother of twin baby girls to appease his wife’s desire for kids. He took them to a house in the woods, locked them in the basement, and claimed them as his own. Present-day, a young woman flees to her uncle’s old, secluded cabin in the same woods to escape her abusive boyfriend. Once there, the solace frees her mind, and she begins seeing ghosts of the little girls crying for their mother. As she tries desperately to figure out the mystery of her visions, her friends, unaware of her boyfriend’s past abuse, bring him to see her. The twins appear more frequently as the truth begins to unravel and just when she is about to face her abusive boyfriend, she instead finds herself face to face with a madman in the middle of a murder spree.
