The Society’s Own Past Hides a Conspiracy in the Latest Vaesen Campaign
Just in time for Halloween, Free League Publishing has a new nightmare for tabletop groups: Death of Songs, a full campaign for its award-winning Vaesen – Nordic Horror Roleplaying game. The publisher announced the book today, and pre-orders are already open, with buyers getting the PDF right away instead of waiting for the hardcover.

The campaign opens in Upsala, home of the Society, before sending investigators out across northern Europe in a mythical, fairy-tale take on the 19th century. Over four new mysteries, players dig into a conspiracy that leads straight back to the Society’s own history, and the choices they make along the way can tip the fate of both humans and the vaesen, the creatures of Nordic folklore that only those with the Sight can see.
Nils Hintze, who served as lead writer on the original Vaesen core rulebook, wrote the campaign, which picks up the thread left by the core book’s introductory mystery, The Dance of Dreams. Along with the four mysteries, the book adds a big chapter devoted to running ongoing campaigns in Upsala, and it features new artwork from Johan Egerkrans and Anton Vitus. Free League’s store listing also carries a fair warning: this is a horror game built on dark folk tales and not meant for kids.
The PDF available now is a beta that will be updated to the final version, while the physical hardcover is due in late Q1 2027. Pre-orders are live through Free League’s webshop.
