Both Trips Through Moscow’s Tunnels Just Got a Fresh Coat of Grime
The road to METRO 2039 now runs back through the tunnels where it all started. 4A Games and Deep Silver have released a free next-gen update for METRO Redux on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, upgrading both METRO 2033 Redux and METRO: Last Light Redux, and the studio walked through the changes on Xbox Wire.
Once the patch is in, players can pick between true 4K at 60fps or upscaled 4K at 120fps, backed by 4A’s own TSR upscaling and anti-aliasing. The visual pass goes beyond resolution, too, with more detailed textures, a reworked lighting and shadow system, richer environments and smoother animation, all tuned to keep the look and feel of the originals intact.

Controllers get some love on both platforms. Xbox players get Impulse Trigger support, along with Xbox Play Anywhere and optimization for the ROG Xbox Ally handhelds, while the PS5 version adds DualSense adaptive triggers and haptics, plus PSSR upscaling on PS5 Pro. The Redux collection is already in its updated form on PC.
In a press release from PLAION, the publisher pitched the update as a way for longtime fans and newcomers alike to get reacquainted with the series before METRO 2039 arrives on February 4, 2027. More than 50 million players have ventured into the METRO games since the original launched in 2010.
