Hammer is bringing back Daughter of Darkness, Lance Comfort’s 1948 gothic about a young woman with murderous impulses, in a new HD restoration from the original negatives. Siobhán McKenna stars, and a Limited Collector’s Edition is up for pre-order.
An eerie performance from Siobhán McKenna in a gothic post-war horror newly restored by Hammer.
Emmy Baudine is a troubled young woman with murderous, psychotic impulses, and McKenna brings depth and complexity to her. Daughter of Darkness is a bold, provocative film from director Lance Comfort, one that challenged the conventions of British cinema in 1948, with themes that remain relevant today.
Chiaroscuro cinematography, strong supporting performances and a moodily evocative score do the rest.
Restored by Hammer from 2K scans of the original film negatives, available here for the first time anywhere in the world, with brand-new artwork by Liza Shumska.
