Every Trip to the Abaddon Hotel Will Soon Check In at One Address
Ten years after a documentary crew’s tapes first turned a Halloween haunted house attraction into one of found footage’s most feared locations, the entire Hell House LLC saga is moving in under one roof. Terror Films Releasing announced on Oct. 22 that it has signed a new three-year licensing deal with Shudder, making AMC Global Media’s horror streamer the exclusive streaming home for all of Stephen Cognetti’s franchise through November 2029. The agreement lands just days before the original film marks its 10th anniversary with its first nationwide run in U.S. theaters, set for Oct. 29 through Nov. 1.
The agreement will bring the acclaimed titles Hell House LLC, Hell House LLC: The Director’s Cut, Hell House LLC II: The Abaddon Hotel and Hell House LLC III: Lake of Fire to Shudder, joining the most recent installment, Hell House LLC Lineage, and extend the streamer’s exclusive rights to Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor.
“This agreement represents an incredible next chapter for a franchise we have believed in from the very beginning,” said Joe Dain, CEO of Terror Films Releasing. “Shudder has been an extraordinary partner to both Terror Films and the Hell House LLC franchise, and its audience has embraced these films with tremendous enthusiasm. Bringing the franchise together under one exclusive streaming home feels like the perfect way to honor everything Stephen Cognetti has created while introducing the films to an even larger global audience.”
“Hell House LLC has become a defining franchise in found-footage horror, building a passionate fan base with its unique and immersive storytelling,” said Courtney Thomasma, EVP Linear and Streaming Products for AMC Global Media. “We’re thrilled to bring the entire Hell House LLC experience together on Shudder, giving fans an exclusive home for the franchise and reinforcing Shudder as the premier destination for distinctive, original horror.”
Written and directed by Stephen Cognetti and produced by Joe Bandelli, the original Hell House LLC was released by Terror Films Releasing on digital platforms in 2016. The film quickly developed a passionate following and has since become widely regarded as one of the defining found-footage horror films of the past decade, ranking No. 7 on Entertainment Weekly’s list of the 28 best found-footage movies of all time and earning a place on IndieWire’s list of the 25 best found-footage movies ever made.
Its success launched an enduring franchise that has continued to expand its mythology and attract new audiences while maintaining the passionate fan base that helped turn the original film into a modern cult classic.
“It’s hard to believe it has been ten years since Terror Films first released Hell House LLC and gave the film an opportunity to find its audience,” said Stephen Cognetti, writer and director of the Hell House LLC franchise. “Terror Films believed in the movie from the beginning and has continued to support the franchise every step of the way. Shudder has also been an incredible advocate for these films and for horror filmmakers in general. To see the entire franchise land exclusively at Shudder as the original film celebrates its 10th anniversary and heads to theaters nationwide is a true full-circle moment, and I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make it possible.”
The deal was completed ahead of a major milestone for the franchise: a nationwide theatrical release of the original Hell House LLC in celebration of its 10th anniversary. Terror Films Releasing has partnered with Iconic Events Releasing to bring the film to as many as 400 theaters across the United States for a special four-night theatrical event beginning October 29 and continuing through November 1, 2026. The engagement will mark the first nationwide U.S. theatrical release of the film that launched the franchise.
Fans continue to have the option to rent or purchase the films through transactional digital platforms, including Fandango at Home, Google Play and other participating TVOD retailers.
