The Monster Gets Dropped From the Marquee, but Both Labels Keep Their Own Identities
The company formed when Jason Blum’s Blumhouse joined forces with James Wan’s Atomic Monster in 2024 finally has a name of its own. Deadline has the details on the rebrand: the combined business, previously known as Blumhouse Atomic Monster, will now go by Blumhouse Atomic. The change is at the corporate level only, so Blumhouse and Atomic Monster will keep working as separate production banners, each with its own creative team developing film and television projects.
The new name arrives at the end of a banner stretch for the partnership. Since the merger, the slate has brought in more than $2.5 billion at the worldwide box office on combined production budgets of under $330 million, with 2026 alone accounting for close to $1.3 billion. Much of that came from two breakout originals, Curry Barker’s Obsession, which became Focus Features’ biggest release ever, and Kane Parsons’ Backrooms, now the top-grossing film in A24’s history.
Blum framed the move as a natural next step for a company that now holds a deep bench of horror franchises, pointing to Wan’s track record with The Conjuring, Insidious and Saw. Blumhouse picked up prospective rights to Saw last year, bringing Wan back to the series he created with Leigh Whannell, and the pair are also developing new chapters of Paranormal Activity and Blair Witch. Wan, meanwhile, put the focus on emerging filmmakers, saying, “The future of horror comes from new voices, and Blumhouse Atomic gives us more ways to find them and support them for the long haul.”
That push includes the hiring of Sam Zimmerman earlier this year to oversee a slate of genre features budgeted under $5 million, along with a first-look pact with Divide/Conquer. The 2027 lineup spans River, The Revenge of La Llorona, The Exorcist: Martyrs, Barker’s Anything But Ghosts, Molepeople, the Parker Posey-led Sleepover and Seasons, plus the Paranormal Activity and Blair Witch revivals, as the company also expands into TV, games, live events and consumer products.
