A Lost Late-’90s Nightmare, Dug Up and Ported to Modern Hardware
Developer Visuwyg and publisher Hyperstrange have locked in November 13 as launch day for Derelikt, their throwback first-person sci-fi horror shooter, on PlayStation 5, and the studio laid out the details on the PlayStation Blog. A new release date trailer arrived alongside the news, and the Steam listing points to the same day for the PC version.
The setting is the Von Neumann Outpost, a mining station bolted onto a strange asteroid found circling Saturn. Morale was already shaky among the crew before a mysterious drone started pushing them toward the edge. Players step in as a hired contractor sent to learn what became of Excavation Team Delta, a crew that vanished out on the surface, only to find failing systems, darkened corridors and survivors whose stories don’t line up.

Combat starts with conventional firearms and branches out into experimental prototypes and alien hardware as the station gives up its secrets. More than a dozen characters can be met along the way, each with their own agenda, and the team says resource management, exploration, dialogue and old-school puzzles are meant to carry as much tension as the gunfights.
The look is the real hook. Visuwyg built the game to feel like a forgotten disc from a defunct late-’90s studio, using hand-painted textures, vertex color lighting, deliberate affine texture warping and full-motion CGI cutscenes, with toggles for players who want to dial the retro effects up or down. The game has been in the works in some form since late 2021, and pre-orders on PlayStation Store currently carry a 10% discount.
