The Entity Wearing Mom’s Face Is Ready to Move Into Your Living Room
After a month-long theatrical run that pushed it past the $100 million mark, Rob Savage’s Jessica Chastain chiller is getting ready to haunt home screens. Universal Pictures Home Entertainment set the dates in its announcement: the film arrives on digital storefronts November 10, followed by 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD editions on December 29.
Based on Josh Malerman’s novel Incidents Around the House, the story follows young Bela (Arabella Olivia Clark), who strikes up a bond with something living in her house that looks almost exactly like her mother. Chastain plays both the real parent and the unsettling double, a presence that turns out to be far more than imaginary as it works to pull Bela’s family apart. Jay Duplass, Dichen Lachman, Arian Moayed and Karen Allen round out the cast, with James Wan producing for Atomic Monster and Blumhouse.
Buyers at participating retailers will get a batch of extras. Four deleted and alternate scenes are included (an alternate take on the car confrontation, plus “Dancing at Grandma’s,” “Checking Bela’s Room” and “Taking a Bath”), along with three featurettes: “Effecting Fear,” on how the practical and digital effects were layered to build tension; “A Family in Pieces,” which focuses on the broken household at the center of the story and the performances behind it; and “Breaking Rules with Other Mommy,” where the cast and filmmakers talk about telling the scares through a child’s eyes.
The studio is pitching the digital window as early access, arriving months ahead of any subscription streaming debut. The 4K disc carries a Dolby Atmos track and runs just under 93 minutes.
