The Graveyard Shift Gets a Lot Darker When Your Own Mind Starts Working Against You
Stocking shelves at 3 AM was never supposed to be the scary part. Live Motion Games has brought its slow-burn convenience store nightmare Corner Shop: NightShift to Xbox Series X|S, with Xbox Play Anywhere support tying it to the PC version, and game director Radosław Kaśkiewicz walked through the thinking behind it on Xbox Wire as the console release went live.
Players step into the worn-out shoes of Adam Callahan, a night clerk whose marriage has fallen apart, whose daughter no longer speaks to him, and whose finances and mental health are both in free fall. The work itself is mundane on purpose: unloading deliveries, mopping floors, ringing up groceries, upgrading cameras, alarms and locks. Then come the blackouts, the alarms that shouldn’t be tripping and the customers who feel wrong, and Adam can’t always tell whether something is really happening or whether exhaustion is rewriting what he sees.

Kaśkiewicz says the studio consulted psychologists with experience in serious mental health conditions and family breakdowns while writing Adam’s therapy sessions and his conversations with his wife, aiming for something that feels human rather than a checklist of symptoms. The store never pauses for drama either, so a painful phone call can be followed immediately by a customer tapping on the counter. Choices made along the way steer the story toward one of four endings.
