A Cursed Helmet, a Murdered Mother and Not a Single Word Spoken
A young girl’s grief turns into something monstrous in a new done-in-one from writer Robert Windom (M1: Monster Racing League) and artist Mirko Čolak (Spawn), and Image Comics made it official today with a January 2027 date for the book.
The story is set in Japan and follows a girl who sees her mother murdered and devotes herself to vengeance. Her path to payback runs through an ancient helmet that transforms whoever wears it into a warrior demon, and once she puts it on, the bodies start to pile up. The catch is that the helmet comes with a karmic rival of its own, and she will have to destroy that enemy if she ever wants to satisfy her hunger for blood. The title itself refers to that kind of bond, an inescapable tie between adversaries.
The issue is told entirely without dialogue. Windom pointed to the famously silent G.I. Joe #21 as the model, and Čolak said working wordless forced him to carry the story through expressions, staging and atmosphere alone. Jae Lee contributes a full-color variant as well as a black-and-white incentive cover, and the one-shot will also land on major digital storefronts the same day.
