For more than thirty years, headlines have focused on Christa Pike. Her childhood, her appeals, her execution. But this story was never supposed to be about her! That’s what she always wanted – ALL the attention, and she’s STILL getting it. Colleen Slemmer is the real victim here.
In January 1995, Colleen was 19 and 400 miles from home, a quiet, kind girl from Orange Park, Florida, chasing a computer certificate at the Knoxville Job Corps Center in Tennessee. She studied every night. She was there to succeed. And on a cold, wet Thursday night, she walked out of her dorm with three classmates… and never signed back in.
This is the whole, real story of Colleen: who she was, what happened behind that old steam plant, the warnings nobody took seriously, and the mother who has spent three decades fighting for her daughter, piece by piece. Plus, where things stand right now, after Tennessee’s failed execution attempt made national headlines.
Her name was Colleen Slemmer. Let’s make sure people remember it.
