The Internet’s Most Notorious Found-Footage Shocker Returns in Vertical Video
Fifteen years after the original rattled viewers, writer-director Michael Goi has quietly delivered a follow-up to his infamous found-footage film, and the whole thing is streaming for free on Instagram. IGN caught up with the release, which rolled out in pieces through episodes and teasers shared by Goi, the cast and a handful of influencers before landing in full.
The new chapter runs 36 episodes and brings back original stars Rachel Quinn and Amber Perkins, this time playing fictionalized versions of themselves. The pair accept an invitation to guest on a podcast, only to discover that the host has far darker plans for them.
Goi built the project around the phone screen, saying the vertical format pulls audiences closer to the terror on screen and makes them part of what happens to the characters. “For years, people have asked me to continue the story,” he told Dread Central.
The 2011 original followed two teenage friends whose lives unravel after one of them connects with a stranger online, told through webcam feeds and video chats. It drifted under the radar for years before a 2020 TikTok resurgence made it a viral talking point, prompting Goi to publicly warn newcomers about its disturbing content.
