Universal’s Haunted-House Hit Keeps Climbing Past Halloween
Rob Savage’s latest scare has officially cleared nine figures. The Universal release starring Jessica Chastain has topped $100 million at the box office, Collider tallied the latest figures, after picking up another $2.5 million from 2,329 locations over the weekend.
That’s a huge return against a reported production budget of about $19 million. The film opened at No. 1 on October 9 and has stayed a fixture on the charts through the Halloween stretch, making it one of the year’s biggest horror earners.
Adapted from Josh Malerman’s 2024 novel Incidents Around the House, the story centers on 8-year-old Bela, played by Arabella Olivia Clark, who is stalked by a malevolent presence that takes on the shape of her mother. Chastain pulls double duty as both Bela’s mom and the entity wearing her face. It marks Savage’s first feature since 2023’s The Boogeyman.
Critics haven’t been nearly as kind as audiences, but the film is still playing in theaters, and 4K, Blu-ray and steelbook pre-orders are already open for anyone wanting to bring it home.
